"Prayer is proof of spiritual life. Intercessory prayer is to act
between two parties to bring them together or to ask a superior for
the need of another. . It is a selfless ministry for others. Sandi
Underwood challenges and offers practical help for those who
would dare to live as priests in the presence of God for others."
"It is not enough to begin to pray, nor to pray aright; nor is it enough to continue for a time to pray; but we must patiently, believingly, continue in prayer until we obtain an answer; and further we have not only to continue in prayer unto the end, but we have also to believe that God does hear us, and will answer our prayers. Most frequently we fail in not continuing in prayer until the blessing is obtained, and in not expecting the blessing." George Müller

AN INTERCESSOR IS ONE WHO STANDS IN THE GAP BETWEEN
GOD'S RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENTS AND THE NEED FOR MERCY
ON THE PEOPLE'S BEHALF.
DEFINING AN INTERCESSOR:
1-An intercessor is one who reminds the Lord of His
promises and appointments yet to be fulfilled.
2-An intercessor is one who takes up the case of
justice before God in behalf of others.
3-An intercessor is one who takes up a hedge and

God's righteous judgements and the need for mercy
on the people's behalf.
5-An intercessor lays down their life for
those God has placed on their heart to interceed
EXAMPLES OF INTERCESSION:
DAVID FOR ISRAEL:
And David said to God, "was it not I who commanded the people to be numbered? I am the one who has sinned and done evil indeed; but these sheep, what have I done? Let your hand, I pray, O Lord my God, be against me and my father's house, but not against your people that they should be plaqued."
I Chronicles 21:17
HEZEKIAH FOR THE PEOPLE:
For a mulitude of the people, many from Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet they ate the passover contrary to what was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, "may the good Lord provide atonement for everyone...

MOSES FOR ISRAEL:
"Yet, now, if you will forgive their sin - but if not, I pray, blot me out of your book which you have written."
MOSES FOR MIRIAM:
So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, "please heal her,
O God I pray!"
The Power Of Prayer
All of the people who have been converted have been saved in answer to prayer. Every saint in glory is there in answer to somebody's prayer. On the other hand, all who have missed heaven have missed it through the neglect of prayer, and have gone down to the regions of eternal death from lack of prayer.
The powers of darkness are felt everywhere from lack of prayer. The devil has paralyzed to a great extent the church from lack of prayer. Many ministers have lost their power from lack of prayer. And many millions now throng the broad way to death from lack of prayer.
All of the great victories in the Christian Church have taken place in answer to prevailing prayer. The Old Testament saints cried to God with an unearthly cry, and in answer to their prevailing prayer and favor with God they "subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens." "Wherefore seeing we also (who read this article, as well as all others) are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us; looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith."
What made Knox, Whitefield, Bunyan, Alleine, Abbott, Clowes, Finney, Carvosso, Muller, Wesley, Payson, and a host of others, such burning and shining lights? What gave them such wonderful power over the people, such power to cast out devils? We answer, prayer; long, persistent, uninterrupted, prevailing prayer, was the secret of their power with God and men.
-- S. B. Shaw
Effective prayer is prayer that attains what it seeks. It is prayer that moves God, effecting its end." Charles G. Finney
Prayer in earnest, with devotion and results. The term was applied generations ago. People who pray know that much of prayer is to "war" in the spirit against the schemes of our spiritual enemies -- the devil and his demons. Most would point to the New Testament book of Ephesians chapter six where it says, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day. . ."
Watchmen is an Old Testament term, and draws from the military watchmen or lookouts who were key to defending a city. They were to be ever vigilant and watchful to see what was coming against their cities and when danger was seen, sound an alarm and warn the city and call the troops to battle against the threat. The lord used this metaphor in many passages to denote people he called aside and showed or spoke to about what was coming on their city or nation. The watchmen work hand in hand with the prayer warriors. The prayer warriors are roused by the watchmen to pray the burden of the Lord and to protect the city from evil and plead with the Lord for promised blessing to come.
Talking with God is a definite fact. And all of you, also, may communicate with Him; not a one-sided conversation, but a real talk wherein you speak to God and He responds."
